Tests show that the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob, has been infected with the Corona virus
The Namibian Presidential Office announced that the results of the tests showed that the country's President, Hage Geingob, was infected with the emerging coronavirus.
The office said on the social networking site "Twitter" that the president (79 years) is subject to dismissal, as is his wife, adding that they are "in good spirits."
It was not clear whether the president's infection with the virus would affect an agreement reportedly ready to be signed in which Germany recognizes that killing tens of thousands of people in its former colonies was genocide.
The Namibian negotiators had told the German news agency (dpa) that the talks on this issue had been concluded, after six years of negotiations, and that the foreign ministers of Namibia and Germany could sign a declaration to this effect in Windhoek early next June.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier may also formally apologize at a later time during a ceremony in the Namibian Parliament.
The German Empire was the colonial power in what is now Namibia from 1884 to 1915, and brutally suppressed independence movements.
