Spain: A skeleton of a girl who lived 700 years ago found under the floor of a church in Real Alcázar

This is under the floor of a church in the Real Alcázar.

The remains, according to archaeologists, date back to the thirteenth century AD, and are of a blond-haired girl who was likely from the gentry.

It is believed that she was originally buried in a different location.

But it was moved to a place next to the main altar at the Virgen de la Antigua in Seville in the 1930s.

The sarcophagus, only eight inches underground, was found during renovation work in April.

Archaeologists unveiled a lead sarcophagus while surveying the church, before restoration work on ceramic tiles, in the 16th-century palace.

Lead anthropologist, Juan Manuel Guijo, commented on the girl's skeleton:

Her arms were almost bent and crossed over her chest, and the corpse had not been tampered with.
