Palestinian sources in Ramallah said that the head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, Minister Abbas Kamel, wants during his current visit to Israel, Ramallah and the Gaza Strip, to push forward a comprehensive agreement.

On Monday, Kamel arrived in Gaza as part of his tour to discuss the consolidation of the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian factions and Israel.


The sources said, in a statement to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper published today, Monday, that the agreement includes stopping Israel any provocation in occupied East Jerusalem, and any operations in Gaza against Hamas or its leaders, and stopping settlements in the West Bank, in exchange for stopping any attacks by the Palestinians and completing a deal. Internal exchange and reconciliation, and the launch of a reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip.


The sources added that Egypt wants all of this to be an entry point for a new political path.


Kamel began intensive talks in Tel Aviv and Ramallah yesterday, and met first with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Talks are taking place in Gaza today.


Egypt has been mediating between Hamas and Israel in a prisoner exchange deal for a long time, but previous attempts collided with a dispute over the price of the deal. This file, in addition to reconciliation and reconstruction, is the most important file that Kamel will discuss with the leaders of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, as he will announce support and a series of projects to revive the sector's economy.


The head of the Egyptian intelligence, heading a security delegation, entered the Gaza Strip today through the "Beit Hanoun" checkpoint, which is under Israeli control, while a delegation from the "Hamas" movement, headed by the leader of the movement in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, arrived at the hotel, which is scheduled to be fully received before his arrival.


A source in "Hamas" said that a full visit will last for hours to discuss the consolidation of the ceasefire and the guarantees that this requires, in addition to the Gaza reconstruction file and mechanisms to mobilize international support for that.


The source added that the talks with the Egyptian official would also deal with the internal Palestinian situation, including Cairo’s intention to call for a meeting of the Palestinian factions soon.


This is the first time that the head of Egyptian intelligence has visited the Gaza Strip since taking office in 2018.
