For this reason, the ship "Ever Gene" is still stuck in Egyptian waters
The cargo ship "Ever Gene", which ran aground in the Suez Canal, is still stuck in Egyptian waters, despite the authorities' success in floating it.
Egypt will not release the huge ship until the company that owns it pays one billion dollars in compensation, according to a statement by the head of the Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, in which he said: "The ship will remain here until the investigations are completed, and compensation is paid."
Rabei did not mention the amount of money that the Egyptian authorities want, but last week he said that Egypt might ask for one billion dollars in exchange for the floatation of the ship, and compensation for the loss of transit fees, which are an important source of foreign currency for Egypt.
Rabei also indicated that the required amount will also be compensation for other costs due to the blockage of the canal, which caused traffic congestion for more than 400 vessels on both sides of the canal.
It is worth noting that the blockage of the canal caused the Egyptian state to lose transit fees estimated at $ 95 million, according to an assessment by the London-based financial analysis firm Refinitiv.
