After the historic drop in temperatures ... horrific scenes reflect the extent of the suffering of Texas residents
The historic low in temperatures in the United States has led to a large portion of Texas known for its heat and drought freezing and cutting electricity to millions of homes and businesses across the state.
Residents of Dallas and Texas published painful photos and videos that reflect the extent of their suffering from a sudden cold wave in the city, where February temperatures usually reach 60 degrees.
Citizen Thomas Black posted a picture on social media showing ice sheets hanging on a ceiling fan in the lobby of his apartment building.
Black took the photo early Monday morning and said a tube had apparently exploded and the leaking water froze on the fan.
In recent days, Black has witnessed even more severe scenes of ponds, frozen walkways and water gushing from buildings, and said that water has been cut off from his apartment because pipes burst everywhere.
At least 20 people have died because of the severe cold and a series of storms that have moved from one coast to another over the past few days. In Texas, about 3 million homes and businesses were left without electricity on Wednesday.
AccueWeather meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said earlier this week that such a winter storm was rare and could happen "once in every generation."
Texas is preparing for more cold in the coming days, as more than 100 million Americans will survive another winter storm that will move from the Plains to the East Coast, according to the National Weather Center.
