US President Joe Biden and his wife did not spend the night of Tuesday-Wednesday January 20, 2021 at the White House. However, there were some exceptions, as is the case with President Bill Clinton, who preferred to stay in the "Hi-Addams" hotel, or President Barack Obama, who was unable to sleep in the "Blair House" because of the presence of Australian Prime Minister John Howard at the time.
The residence, consisting of four houses, spreading over some 19,000 cubic meters, has an eventful history. It was built in 1824 by Joseph Lovell, one of the first American surgeons. And for an amount of 6,500 US dollars, in 1836 the journalist Francis Preston Blair, who was among the friends and supporters of President Andrew Jackson, bought it, and it remained the property of his family until the American state bought it in 1942 to convert it into a residence for the guests of the American President. Hence, many personalities such as Queen Elizabeth II, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin stayed in this house.
President Harry Truman also lived in this house with his family when the White House witnessed renovations between 1948 and 1952. While in the "Blair House" President Truman was subjected to an assassination attempt by two members of the Puerto Rican National Party.
