"Vogue" magazine publishes a new version of its issue about Kamala Harris after it has been criticized
Faced with criticism over a photo of Kamala Harris that topped its cover for the month of February, Vogue magazine will release a new version of this issue with a different image that "befits" the next US Vice President.
A spokesman for Condé Nast, which owns Vogue, said Tuesday, "In appreciation of the great interest in the online cover and to celebrate this historic moment, we will release limited copies of the inauguration issue" of the President of the United States.
The magazine faced a torrent of criticism last week, as it considered the image of Kamala Harris, which appeared on the cover of the February issue in sneakers, "very informal." This number is scheduled to coincide with the inauguration of the Democratic duo, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, president of the United States, with his vice president.
The image has been replaced by a more classic one showing Kamala Harris in a blue suit and arms crossed against a background in muted colors.
But the two photos, taken by black photographer Tyler Mitchell, will appear together on the online edition of the magazine.
Some accused the magazine of wanting to "whiten" the skin tone of the first black woman to reach the position of vice president of the United States.
These criticisms forced Anna Wintour, director of the magazine, who was previously the subject of controversy at the outbreak of protests against racial inequality in 2020, to defend her choice last Tuesday.
She emphasized that she had "never had the intention, in any way, to downplay the importance of the brilliant victory of the elected Vice President."
