The most recent equipment ... Raising the efficiency of food laboratories in Alexandria port
Dr. Mumtaz Shaheen, Director of the Institute of Animal Health, confirmed that the efficiency of food laboratories in Alexandria Port had been developed, expanded and increased and provided with the latest equipment for food checks and the laboratory capacity of one hundred thousand samples annually at a rate of two hundred and fifty samples per day.
The statement stated that this comes within the framework of the political leadership's directives to complete all food checks inside the Egyptian ports to speed up the release of food commodities while ensuring the provision of healthy and safe food to citizens and in implementation of the instructions of Mr. Al-Qusayr, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
The laboratories examine foods of animal origin (meat, fish, poultry, liver, kidneys, hearts, dairy products) imported through the ports of Alexandria and Dekheila, where all the tests are carried out according to the Egyptian standard. 80 laboratory tests in the fields of:
Food - water - feed - swabs - chemical examination - examination of drug residues - hormones - pesticides - mycotoxins - bacterial toxins - remnants of heavy elements such as lead and cadmium.
Shaheen added that within the framework of the protocol signed between the Institute of Animal Health and the National Food Safety Authority, the institute operates in an integrated system 24 hours a day to receive and examine samples and extract the results to maintain Egyptian food security.
It is worth noting that the laboratories of the Institute of Animal Health are accredited as distinguished reference laboratories for the African Union in examining foods of animal origin, as well as for the National Food Safety Authority, and the Institute has 38 sub-laboratories spread in all ports, ports and governorates of the Republic
