The death of the famous banker Benjaman de Rothschild
Baron Benjamin de Rothschild, chairman of the Edmond de Rothschild Holding Company, which oversees the French-Swiss financial group, Edmond de Rothschild, passed away on Friday at the age of 57, his family announced Saturday.
"Ariane de Rothschild and her daughters announce with great sadness the death of her husband and father Benjamin de Rothschild from a heart attack at the family home in Priene (Switzerland) on Friday afternoon January 15, 2021," the family said in a statement.
Benjamin de Rothschild was born on July 30, 1963, and father of four daughters, with whom he had a wife, Ariane, the international financial expert who was entrusted with chairing the group in 2015.
The Geneva-based Franco-Swiss group specializes in private banking and asset management and has nothing to do with the Franco-British investment bank Rothschild & Co.
The group's assets are valued at 173 billion Swiss francs ($ 164 billion).
The group, which was founded in 1953, today includes 2,600 employees in 32 branches around the world.
Benjamin de Rothschild had held the presidency of the group since 1997, following the death of his father, Edmond de Rothschild.
He was the son of Baroness Nadine de Rothschild, 88, a former actress best known for her books on the art of fitness and good behavior.
The family home, where the banker spent his last hours, is called "Rothschild Castle" and has been in the family's noble family since the mid-nineteenth century.
Later, the group issued a statement confirming de Rothschild's death, affirming that he had been an exceptionally pioneer during these years.
She referred to his charitable activities, noting the impact he had on the development of the Derothschild Hospital's performance.
As of the end of 2019, the economic agency Bloomberg says, the group had assets of 173 billion Swiss francs ($ 194 billion) and activity in 15 countries.
The Rothschilds were once one of the richest families in the world, and Benjamin's grandfather fled to Switzerland during World War II.
