The British health authorities authorized the use of two anti-inflammatory drugs to treat those infected with the Coronavirus, after proving their effectiveness in reducing the risk of death from the virus to a quarter.

According to the "Euronews" channel, the two new drugs, tocilizumab and sarilumab, also proved their ability to reduce the time required for people with Corona in intensive care by approximately 10 days.

The channel explained that the experiments conducted on 800 patients with Coronavirus showed that those who receive the aforementioned drugs within the first 24 hours of entering the intensive care unit have a reduced risk of death to 27.3%, while the chances of death for Corona patients who receive dexamethasone are 35.8%.

The WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean said that when the virus reproduces or copies itself, it changes slightly at times and these changes are called "mutations", and it is called the "variant" of the original virus.

The office explained that some viruses change quickly and others at a slower rate, and the Corona virus - SARS-2 that causes Covid-19 is changing at a slower rate compared to other viruses, such as HIV or the influenza virus, and this is partly due to the fact that the Corona-SARS-2 virus includes An internal "correction mechanism" that allows correcting errors that may arise when the virus copies itself.

Most of the changes have little or no effect on the properties of the virus, and sometimes, they result in a variant virus that adapts better to its environment than the original virus, and in this case, that variable can become prevalent in a particular environment.

This process of selecting successful variants is called "viral evolution," and it is a natural process that all viruses undergo.
