Britain dedicated a simple celebration commensurate with the Holocaust and the burning of the Jews, as famous landmarks across the country were lit in purple yesterday, to remember the millions of people who died during the Holocaust.
According to the British Daily Mail, the London Eye, the Museum of Natural History, the Palace of Westminster and the Millennium Bridge in Newcastle were among the buildings that became highlighted in light on Holocaust remembrance day.
This came as Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales spoke of the alarming increase of fake news and urged people to challenge those who promote unfounded conspiracy theories.
Charles spoke of the need for a person to be a light in the dark "as people all over the country put candles in their windows to remember the Jewish people, and in his speech during an Internet party Wednesday night to meditate on the millions of Jews and other minorities who were killed in concentration camps in World War II," Charles said that people should remember those who survived the persecution of the Nazis.
But he also warned and said: "We have also seen attacks and an increase in false news that is not based on reality, and we have seen the reason rejected, objectivity has been abandoned, history is neglected, even the Holocaust has been denied."
He added, "As I speak, the last generation of living witnesses are tragically living in this world, and this is the time when we can, each in his own way, be the light that ensures that darkness never returns."
The Duchess of Cambridge, Premier League footballers and the Prime Minister were among those who supported Memorial Day, and Boris Johnson was one of the political leaders who read lines from a poem at an online ceremony.
