America buys 100 million doses of Moderna vaccine
Moderna said that the US government will receive an additional 100 million doses of the candidate vaccine for Covid-19 and are expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2021, if approved.
The company that developed the vaccine said that the government has ordered a total of 200 million doses so far. It added that about 20 million doses in the first order will be delivered by the end of December and the rest in the first quarter of 2021.
In August, the United States entered into an agreement with Moderna to obtain 100 million doses of the potential Covid-19 vaccine for $ 1.5 billion, with an option to secure an additional 400 million doses.
A panel of outside advisers to the US Food and Drug Administration is due to hold a meeting on December 17th to discuss Moderna's request for authorization for the emergency use of the vaccine.
