Klein held the top job of Biden's staff during Barack Obama's first term, and held the same position with Vice President Al Gore in the mid-1990s.
He was also appointed as a key advisor in Biden's campaign, where he led his preparations for debates and dealing with the Corona virus, knowing that he had worked with Biden since the Democratic presidential campaign in 1987.
In the same context, Klein's choice confirms the effort that the incoming Biden administration will make in dealing with the Corona virus since the first day, as he has public health experience as a coordinator to deal with the Ebola virus during the 2014 outbreak.

On his part, Biden said of the new employee: "His deep and varied experience and his ability to work with people of all political spectrums is exactly what I need in the White House chief of staff, as we face this time of crisis and gather our country together again."
Klein's choice is also set to assuage some of the concerns among progressives, who have been preparing to spar over one of Biden's first and most senior employees as he builds the White House team.
The chief White House staff member is usually the president's gatekeeper, formulating political and legislative strategy, and often liaising with Congress in legislative negotiations.
Progressives had expressed concerns that Biden would choose another former senior employee, such as Steve Richetti, who faces doubts about his work as a lobbyist, or Bruce Reed, who is seen as too moderate to accept the reforms pushing the party base. .
But progressives see Klein being open to working with them on top priorities, like climate change and healthcare.
