This World Series is guaranteed to make history. The Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays are two of only five MLB teams that have never won the title. Whoever lifts the trophy this week ends a lifetime of waiting for their fans.
After two tight games in Milwaukee, the Brewers lead 2-0. Now the series moves to Florida for Game 3, and the Rays badly need a win at home.

Game 2: the comeback
Game 2 looked lost after one inning. The Rays scored four times in the first, with RBI singles from Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero and a 411-foot home run from catcher Liam Hicks.
Then Milwaukee chipped away:
- 1st inning: William Contreras and Garrett Mitchell drove in runs to make it 4-2.
- 4th inning: a grounder slipped under first baseman Jonathan Aranda's glove, and it was 4-3.
- 6th inning: Sal Frelick tied it 4-4 with a home run off left-hander Ian Seymour. It was his first homer off a lefty in 98 plate appearances this season.
- 7th inning: rookie Cooper Pratt hit the go-ahead single for 5-4.
- 9th inning: Aaron Ashby held on, even with the tying run 90 feet from home. The game ended on a check-swing strike call against Yandy Díaz.

The Brewers: comeback kings
Milwaukee won a franchise-record 103 games, the most in baseball for the second year in a row, and swept the Dodgers in the NLCS. This is only their second World Series ever, and the first since 1982, when they lost in seven games to the St. Louis Cardinals.
They never seem to panic. The Brewers are just the fifth team to overcome more than one four-run deficit in a single postseason, joining the 1996 Yankees, 2002 Angels, 2005 White Sox and 2022 Phillies.

- William Contreras: threw out two runners trying to steal in Game 1, and is tied for the most hits in the series with four.
- Aaron Ashby: 15 2/3 scoreless innings this postseason, one out away from Andrew Miller's 2016 record.
The Rays: time to answer at home
Tampa Bay led the American League with 98 wins, swept the Yankees, and beat the Guardians in six games in the ALCS. This is their third World Series, and they have never won one.
Their big worry is pitching. Ace Drew Rasmussen had his shortest start of the postseason in Game 2, and the bullpen struggled. Their hope is Freddy Peralta, the ALCS MVP, who spent eight seasons as a Brewer. He is 7-0 with a 0.89 ERA over his last 10 outings, with a 1.10 ERA over his last six starts at Tropicana Field.
Our prediction
The Brewers have the momentum and the history, but the Rays are a very different team at home. We expect Tampa Bay to win at least one of the three games in Florida, which would send the series back to Milwaukee. Either way, by next weekend, one city will be celebrating its first ever championship.
