Two exhibitions about Victor Hugo in Paris, one about his paintings and the other about his funeral
Paris dedicates two exhibitions to French literary giant Victor Hugo, one about his paintings, the other recounting his funeral, which took part in what was considered one of the largest crowds in the French capital ever.
An exhibition of 200 of his drawings unknown to the public, the first after the stone stage, opened in the restored house of Victor Hugo in the Place Vosges in Paris, and it will continue until November 21.
The writer belonged to the circle of those close to him alone with these drawings, which did not gain fame until 1888, that is, 3 years after his death in 1885.
The drawings were divided into several sections, each centered on a theme, such as friendship, love, soul, Paris, mourning and others.
Attention was drawn to the caricatures dating back to the last phase of his life, which he dedicated to calling for the abolition of the death penalty.
As for the exhibition "Freedom in the Pantheon", which was held in the basement near his tomb, it recalls pictures, paintings, and other things about Hugo's funeral.
The writer's funeral was an event, as he participated in a crowd estimated at 2 million people.
Among the interesting exhibits, for example, is a classified advertisement that reads “The Funeral of Victor Hugo. For rent 60 places on the first floor in avenue Saint-Germain.
The Pantheon exhibition will continue until September 26.
