Musician "Salsa Legend" Johnny Pacheco dies at 85 in New York
The family of musician Johnny Pacheco, "the legend of salsa", announced his death in New York City, USA, at the age of 85, and the American newspaper (Los Angeles Times) reported today, Tuesday, that the wife of musician Maria Elena Pacheco confirmed his death at the Holy Name Medical Center in Tinik, New Jersey; Due to complications from pneumonia.
Pacheco was born on March 25, 1935 in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, where he was famous throughout his life for the advancement of African-Caribbean society and its music, and he composed more than 150 songs, many of which became classics. He also founded the record company "Vanell Records" through which the symbols of salsa music passed through. Such as Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoss and Willie Colon.
It is noteworthy that "salsa" is a musical and cultural color developed in Latin America and is considered to be of Caribbean origin.
