The price of this oil painting on canvas is estimated at between "800 thousand to one million euros", according to the auction house.

Pierre Solaj presented this painting, titled "Painting 81 x 60 cm, 3 December 1956" to his friend "Leopold Sedar Senghor," shortly after its completion, the house said.

The painting was located in the home of the Senegalese president and his wife in Verson, near Cannes, where the couple had lived since the 1980s.

The former Senegalese president was a big fan of the 101-year-old painter.

Segur wrote in 1958, "The first time I saw a painting of Pierre Solaj was astonished. It was as if I had been hit in the stomach that knocked me down, just as a boxer falls with a knockout."

"Soulage's paintings always remind me of Afro-Negro paintings and even sculptures," he added.

In addition to this painting, Leopold Cedar Senghor also had a "small sketch" of the painter, "which wrote" Greetings Pierre Solaj + ", according to Solene Lainet, auction commissioner.
