Robert Lewandowski Germany Player of the Year
Poland's Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich's top scorer, was crowned Germany's Player of the Year for the second time in a row, in a poll organized by the German magazine Kicker and its results were announced on Sunday.
This was not a surprising victory, as Lewandowski received 356 out of 563 votes for German journalists, convincingly beating his teammate Thomas Muller, who received 41 votes, while Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland came third with 38 votes.
"I realize how big this honor is," said Lewandowski, 32.
Lewandowski scored 41 goals to lead Bayern to the German League title (Bundesliga) last season, surpassing the record number of goals scored in one season, which was registered in the name of Gerd Muller in the 1971/72 season.
"This number fills me with great pride and in light of my injury it is definitely a great performance," Lewandowski said.
Hoffenheim's Nicole Bella was named Player of the Year in the same poll, while Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel, with whom he won the Champions League, was named coach of the year.
