Four months in prison for Damien Tarel, who slapped Emmanuel Macron in the face
BFM TV reported that a French court had sentenced the young man who slapped French President Emmanuel Macron in the face to 18 months in prison, with 14 suspended.
Damien Tarrell, 28, admitted hitting Macron during the French president's visit to the southeastern Drôme region, but told investigators that his action was not premeditated.
The court of Valence, in southeastern France, found Tariel guilty of violence against a person of public authority. It sentenced him to 4 months in prison, in addition to a 14-month suspended prison sentence, and banned him from holding public office or owning weapons for 5 years.
Tarel described himself as a right-wing or far-right patriot, and a member of the "yellow vests" economic protest movement.
