And Apple TV Plus, the streaming service, announced that actress Frances McDormand, 63, and Denzel Washington, 66, will star in the Macbeth Tragedy, which will be produced by Studio A24 and Apple Original Films.

The movie is directed by Joel Coen, who often works with his wife McDormand, who won a Best Actress Oscar for "Nomad Land" at the end of April.

William Shakespeare's tragedy of 1606 revolves around a general who craves power and lacks conscience, embodied here by Washington, who is fueling his ambitions to become king of Scotland with his wife, Lady Macbeth, and her embodiment here McDormand.

This play is among the most adapted of Shakespeare's works and was adapted into films by Orson Welles in 1948, Roman Polanski in 1971, and Australian director Justin Kurtzel in 2015 with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
