Russian ballerina Elmira Bagotdinova is protesting against a building project that threatens the environment. So what did she do?

Bagotdinova braved sub-zero temperatures with shoes and a light dancing suit to record a video of her dancing in the freezing waters of Patarinaya Bay after reading reports of a project to build grain silos at the site.

The Mariinsky Theater dancer posted the video online and added music from the Tchaikovsky Swan Lake Ballet to it.

“This is a unique historical and natural place where pelicans nest in spring,” she wrote on Facebook. Families spend holidays with their children in the summer, and hundreds of fishermen go out on the ice in the winter. She added, "All this is at risk of ruin."
