Sudan and Ethiopia: Sudanese official: Ethiopia is practicing something like Israeli settlements on Sudan's lands
A member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Shams al-Din al-Kabbashi, likened the Ethiopian encroachment on his country's lands in the Fashaqa area to the Israeli settlement in Palestine.
Al-Kabbashi confirmed in an interview with Al-Arabiya channel yesterday, Friday, that Sudan had regained a large percentage of its lands, amounting to 90%, and indicated that only about 3 points remained.
He said, "We hope that the brothers in Ethiopia will evacuate this region with all its factories. We do not want to seize anything from them, which is a Sudanese region, even if Ethiopia claims that it belongs to it."
He added, "From our point of view, it is a settlement similar to the Israeli settlement in Palestine, and we will not allow it and we will not allow any other settlement inside Al-Fashaqa or any other area."
And a member of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council considered that what Ethiopia lacks is the courage only to declare war in light of the continuing aggressions and the mobilization of its forces on the borders.
Al-Kabbashi stressed that Sudan does not reject mediation with Ethiopia, but on the condition that the pre-drawn border markers be placed.
Since last November, tension has prevailed on the borders of the two countries after the Sudanese army redeployed its forces in the Fashaqa areas to regain about 90% of the vast agricultural lands that were being exploited by Ethiopian farmers under the protection of armed militias.
Recently, Addis Ababa questioned the internationally recognized borders between Sudan and Ethiopia, according to the "Major Queen" line in 1902.
