A collaboration between HUGO BOSS and Alex Thompson ... revolutionary design and unprecedented technologies
On November 8, # Alex Thompson sailed the 2020-2021 Vendée Globe, determined to win this year, having finished second and third in the last two rounds of this singles race around the world.
The British captain sails on the #HUGO BOSS yacht, an IMOCA 60 class yacht that took 80,000 hours to design and build. The HUGO BOSS yacht is an important step forward in this class of boats, and is made almost entirely of carbon fiber and equipped with a network of cameras, enabling Thompson's progress to be viewed and analyzed from inside the cockpit, ensuring fans are fully interactive as they race from the comfort of their own homes.
This remarkable race, known as "Everest Sailing", takes place every four years. Each captain embarks on a cruise around the world, sailing more than 28,000 miles without any assistance or stopping. Of the 167 sailors who participated in the race, only about half have successfully completed the voyage.
Thompson finished the 2016-2017 race in 74 days, 19 hours and 35 minutes, 24 hours short of the record time set by Frenchman Armelle Le Clash. The new HUGO BOSS yacht features a revolutionary design punctuated by unprecedented technology, increasing the captain's chances of winning this year's race.
On this occasion, Alex Thompson said on his official page, “Winning the Vendée Globe is an achievement that I have been hoping for for nearly 20 years. I have always built dreams on this race and worked hard for it to achieve them. To win it? Of course, this is the goal. But first, the race must be completed until the end. As I prepare for my fifth experience, I fully realize how difficult this challenge is, but I have confidence in myself and the HUGO BOSS boat, and I think that if we reach the finish line, we will definitely be able to win.
